Disney + has decided to raise prices and include a plan with ads, for now only in the United States.
After reporting a impressive increase in subscribers which has led Disney to overtake Netflix in the total number of paying users, the platform has also announced a price increase and the arrival of the rumored plan with cheaper ads.
As reported by Disney, revenue per subscriber is too low. Disney+ only earns $4.35 per subscriber on average, something that is greatly influenced by the plans of each country. For example, in India Disney+ only generates $1.20 per month per customer, while in the United States, the average revenue exceeds $6.
This has led the company to make a restructuring of subscription planswhich now include ads and a new, more expensive plan in the US.
These are the new Disney + prices
The monthly subscription to Disney + in the United States was priced at $7.99. Now that will be the price of the subscription with ads. As an alternative, the company has launched a new ad-free plan, Disney+ Premium, which will cost $10.99 per monthor $109.99 per year.
In addition to the prices of Disney +, the company has also modified those of other platforms such as Hulu and ESPN +, as well as the packages with several of its services. New prices for Disney services are coming from December 8.
With our new ad-supported Disney+ offering and a wide range of plans across our streaming portfolio, we will provide greater consumer choice at a variety of price points to meet the diverse needs of our viewers and appeal to an even broader audience.
Therefore, this is how the new Disney + plans and prices remain in the United States:
|Disney+ Basic (with ads)||$7.99||Not available|
|Disney+ Premium (No Ads)||$10.99||$109.99|
At the moment this price increase and the plan with ads are exclusive to the US market, no price increases have been announced in other countries. However, it is something that will eventually happen. We don’t know if in a few months or in 2023, but Disney will export this new subscription model to other markets.
Looking at the prices, it is to be expected that in Europe we will maintain the 8.99 euros for the plan with ads and go up to the €12.99 for the Premium plan, with a price of about 119.99 euros per year.
