In less than two months, Apple will be announcing the upcoming iPhone 14 series. With the rumors heating up, there are a few features that have been heavily confirmed in these new phones. Read what we expect to see on the iPhone 14 as we roundup four of them.
Max Regular iPhone 14 is Coming
It’s been a while since we’ve heard that sales of the iPhone mini have disappointed Apple. 9to5Mac Sources can confirm that we will not see any of these other phones with the 14 series.
According to our sources, the new iPhone 14 (codenamed D27 and D28) will be available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch versions, while the Pro models (codenamed D73 and D74) may be slightly longer to accommodate the new hole-punch. tablet design.
So, if you’re looking for a smaller phone, you’ll have to go with the new iPhone SE 3 and its “iconic design”, buy the iPhone 13 mini or the iPhone 12 mini.
Different design between regular and pro models
The iPhone 14 Pro will have a new hole-punch + pill design. This will be the first time that Apple will move from the looks of the iPhone X to a new approach. That said, this new design will be exclusive to the Pro model as the regular version will likely stay with the same notch as the iPhone 13, which is 30% smaller than the one found on the iPhone 12.
Analyst Ross Young also confirmed the report, saying that all models will have the same design again in 2023. Till then, if you want the latest design, you have to go with the Pro model.
A15 Bionic for iPhone 14, A16 Bionic to iPhone 14 Pro
9to5Mac Independent sources and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple may break with tradition this year, releasing some iPhone 14 models with the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13.
The A15 chip will power the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch 14 Max, though the RAM will be upgraded from 4GB to 6GB. The new A16 SoC will be reserved for the higher-end, and more expensive, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models.
As of now, it’s unclear whether Apple will rebrand the A15 chip for regular 14 phones — like the A15X — or use the more powerful version found on the iPhone 13 Pro instead.
48MP main sensor for iPhone 14 Pro, the biggest front-facing camera upgrade in years
Another important feature of the iPhone 14 Pro will be the 48MP wide sensor. First suggested by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, bloombergMark Gurman was the latest person to report on this new feature.
While a 48MP may unlock new functionalities, it is likely that Apple will continue to shoot photos in 12MP, as you can read more about it here. The regular iPhone 14 models will stay with the 12MP sensor in all the lenses.
In June, Kuo said the phone would represent Apple’s most significant front-facing smartphone camera upgrade in 14 years. The analyst predicts that the new camera will feature autofocus, which should result in better quality for capturing photos and videos than current fixed focus cameras. Apart from this, he also expects a bigger f/1.9 aperture
wrap
There are more rumors about this upcoming phone. For example, Apple could possibly add satellite communications to the 2022 iPhone. It was first rumored to have model 13, but didn’t make the cut. Apart from this, all the above mentioned features will be part of iPhone 14.
