In my humble opinion, VLC is by far the best media player out there. It is available on virtually all platforms, supports many video and audio formats, it is 100% customizable and it has a lot of cool features. Besides, it is open source, so it is also private and secure. For this reason, here we have already dedicated several guides to it, such as the one to play videos from Windows on Android over WiFi with VLC.
We have also taught you how to cast from VLC on your Android mobile to Chromecast. Now if you’re using VLC on your Windows or Mac computer and want to cast what you’re watching to a Chromecast, it is necessary to do another tutorial, because the steps to follow are totally different. Here’s how to stream from VLC on PC to your TV or speaker with Chromecast.
Steps to stream from VLC on PC to a Chromecast
VLC comes with built-in Google Cast screencasting, so it is very easy to send what you are watching to a Chromecast from your PC. You just have to follow these steps:
- First of all, make sure your PC and computer are connected to the same network (either the same WiFi or the same router).
- Open VLC on your Windows PC or Mac.
- Later, start the video or music that you want to stream to the Chromecast.
- In the options bar at the top, click Reproduction.
- Hover over the option Processor.
- Now, your device with Chromecast should appear. Select the Chromecast you want to send the content to.
Clever! The video or music you sent will start playing on the Chromecast immediately (it may take a few seconds to start). In the VLC mobile app it is even easier to do this, since you just have to press the Chromecast icon that will appear at the top of the application and select the device to which you want to transmit the content.
Can I stream from VLC on PC to TV without Chromecast?
If you don’t have a Chromecast or Chromecast with Google TV connected to your TV, you can still it is possible to send content to it via VLC. If your Smart TV has Chromecast integrated, there is no need to connect another device to stream videos or music. Simply follow the steps shown above and select your TV.
However, if your TV isn’t a smart TV or a brand that doesn’t use Android TV or Chromecast built-in, like Samsung Smart TVs, unfortunately you will not be able to use VLC to send content to it. Your only option in that case is to get a device that adds Chromecast to your TV, such as the MECOOL KD3.
