The Oppo Reno 4 Pro is a smartphone clearly dedicated to young people and creative people with a very particular positioning. However, for 800 euros, it wants to be high-end enough to try to convince a trusted audience. We will see through this review what the Oppo Reno 4 Pro is worth on a daily basis, and if, in our opinion, it is recommendable.

Summary of the review
Design: Elegance, above all
The Oppo Reno 4 Pro is a smartphone that promotes elegance with really good quality materials. The glass back provides an ultra-premium smartphone feel, with moreover for the latter a particular treatment which gives it a very pleasant feeling in the hand. Moreover no fingerprints possible to detect on this phone there, at the back. The finishes of this phone are clearly of a very high quality. To talk about the buttons on the sides, they are relatively well placed and well thought out. We find ourselves here with 3 buttons, two on the left and one on the right, which has a good pleasant support.
To talk about the front of the smartphone, it also happens that this point is very qualitative. the Oppo Reno 4 Pro has a stunning OLED display with 90 Hertz refresh rate. This screen is perfect for consuming content, but also for consulting social networks and doing daily tasks. The camera at the top left is relatively discreet.
To say a few words about the fingerprint sensor under the screen, it is relatively good without excelling. It is slightly slower than that of the Find X2 Pro, but it is still relatively good and in our opinion particularly up to par.
Software: Lots of features, but…
On this phone, we end up with a particularly heavy overlay and very far from stock Android. The Oppo Reno 4 Pro has an overlay called Color OS. Small disappointment for us because the phone is currently running Android 10.
However, let’s quickly get to the heart of the matter and talk a little bit about the features. the phone has here in its software many customization features. It is possible to change its grid on the home screen, to change the types of animations such as that of the fingerprint sensor. All of its features aremoreover accompanied by pleasant entertainment but relatively fast.
The panel for displaying notifications from your smartphone is packed with features. To be clear with you, there would even be enough to get lost inside this incalculable number of features. Let’s put things into perspective, because if you’re a fan of customization and many features in a phone, this software will clearly match you 100%.
Overall, we feel here that the Chinese brand clearly wanted to make efforts in terms of its software. Oppo tries somehow to improve its user experience to make it better and as simple as possible. Even if Oppo is in our opinion on the right track to improve its user experience, there are still details such as the haptic engine which is really of very poor quality and worthy of a smartphone at 200 €. but we can and Oppo’s efforts to make its software as simple as possible while providing maximum functionality.
Performance: Balance
The Oppo Reno 4 Pro clearly wants to play the card of balance rather than maximizing performance. The Snapdragon 765G remains clearly qualitative for performing everyday tasks. However, when we tried to play games like Fortnite on this smartphone, the phone started to heat up clearly, in a very disturbing but logical way.
But except if you are a gamer, the phone in terms of power will not fail you.
This phone has a Snapdragon 765Gwith two configurations having 8 or 12 GB of RAM. Storage starts from 128 GB.
To conclude this performance part, it is difficult to find a real good conclusion because for 200 € cheaper, the Find X2 Neo does the same thing, while the One Plus 8 is better. But the smartphone itself is relatively efficient in our opinion.
Photo: The mixed recipe
For 800 € the phone offers 3 photosensors on the back and only one on the front. Here are the characteristics of the sensors on the back:
- 48-megapixel main sensor (f/1.7);
- 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, 120 degrees (f/2.2);
- 13-megapixel x2 telephoto lens (f/2.4).
Photo of the day: Good, but not perfect
With several daytime photos taken in several different conditions, we found problems with the colorimetry also of the background blur effect which is clearly not at the level of smartphone at 800 €. Even if the phone is not bad in photos, unfortunately we find that it clearly remains fairly average in terms of quality. However, by doing it two or three times under certain conditions, it is possible to retain results of very high quality all the same.
We can notice all the same that up to x10 zoom, the photos remain qualitative even if there are, as said earlier, problems in terms of colorimetry between the different sensors. But if you’re a little bit creative, it is possible to get really high quality results by lightly retouching your photos.
Night mode: The mixed results
At night we had quite mixed results depending on the situation. Night mode sis behaved sometimes in a way that makes the photo look amazing like just below, but sometimes the menu behaved ultra weird by contrasting the photos too much. It will therefore sometimes take several times depending on the conditions to obtain qualitative photos in night mode on this phone.
Autonomy: 4000 mAh for one day!
At the level of the battery part of this smartphone, it is difficult to find extenuating circumstances on certain points. The smartphone in normal condition can last a good day of use, even if when it is pushed a little bit to the limit, its autonomy will reduce very sharply.
However, in normal situations the phone can last a good day of use without excelling in this area, because it must be remembered but this smartphone has a 4000 milliamp hour batterye.
However, one point that we think is really interesting is its ultra-fast charging. In just half an hour it is possible to switch your smartphone from 0 to 100%. Very practical if you are a power user in particular.
Conclusion: The smartphone for purists
To conclude, this smartphone is a qualitative product, but which still lacks attention to detail on certain points. The haptic engine is not really good example, or the design is really excellent. We note in conclusion that the Oppo Reno 4 Pro is a good smartphone, but which lacks balance, with a positioning that may be a little too high in view of its proposal.
The positive points :
- Design
- Controlled construction
- Photo Versatility
- Screen
- 65W load
The negative points :
- Autonomy
- Catastrophic haptic engine
- Very variable photo result
- Loud speaker
Rating: 14/20
