This year’s edition of Death Before Dishonor has been delivered to the archives, the first under the new management by Tony Khan, staged on Saturday 23 July. Between spectacular encounters and major title changes, the Ring of Honor PPV (read the company’s history here) did not disappoint expectations in the least. Here are the full results.
The results of Death Before Dishonor
ROH World Title: Claudio Castagnoli beats Jonathan Gresham
A debut with all the trimmings for the Swiss in ROH who becomes the new world champion at the end of a great match thanks to the Ricola Bomb. Claudio had been one of the pillars of the Company before joining WWE in 2012, but he had never managed to win the top title. At the end of the meeting the two shake hands, respecting the “Code of Honor”.
ROH World Six-Man Title: Dalton Castle & The Boys beat The Righteous
Another match, another title change. Dalton Castle and his “Boys” win by pinfall and become the new Six-Man Champions. To deliver the victory to his team was Castle with the Bang-A-Rang against Bateman.
ROH Pure Title: Wheeler Yuta beats Daniel Garcia
Wheeler Yuta, who has been on the crest of the wave in AEW for months thanks to the affiliation with the Blackpool Combat Club, is confirmed as an indisputable talent. Excellent performance also for Daniel Garcia, but the defending champion wins thanks to a very articulated pinfall. In the post match Yuta gives him his hand as a sign of respect, but Garcia responds with a middle finger, leaving the ring.
Rush beats Dragon Lee
A challenge between brothers with a high adrenaline rate that sees Rush come out victorious thanks to Bull’s Horns. As commentators pointed out, Rush is now in his 10th consecutive win and looks unstoppable.
ROH Women’s Title: Mercedes Martinez beats Serena Debb
The self-proclaimed “pro-wrestling teacher” had to succumb to the aggressiveness of the reigning champion, who forced her to surrender by submitting her with the Brass City Sleeper.
ROH World TV Title Match: Samoa Joe beats Jay Lethal
Two historical faces of Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling. In the weeks leading up to the PPV, Jay Lethal promised the world to become the new champion, but he didn’t. A very determined Samoa Joe forced him to surrender with the patented Coquina Clutch.
ROH World Tag Team Title, 2 out of 3 Falls: FTR beat The Briscoes
A match that lasted almost an hour, to be given to the insiders and newbies of the discipline. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, now in a state of grace, have once again proved that they are the best tag team around. The third and decisive fall came after a piledriver from Dax’s second rope against Jay Briscoe.
In the post match the four shake hands, respecting the Code of Honor, but the reigning champions are targeted by Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta. The two, accompanied by William Regal, appear on stage and applaud them for the great match, but at the same time make their intentions very clear.
