In the last period, thanks to one increasingly present rush to electrificationwe have witnessed the arrival on the market of numerous new solutions also characterized by design that, in unsuspected times, we would have defined as extravagant. It is now an aspect known to all, but electric cars for purely aerodynamic and functional needs they no longer follow the styles we have become accustomed to over the years and therefore, at times, appear more “clumsy” than one might expect. We have been accustomed for decades to seeing huge air intakes and grilles, technical elements now absent in battery-powered cars. If electric cars still seem strange to you, try to see the few hydrogen solutions available on the market: we are sure they will leave you even more perplexed. However, even considering this aspect, we do not believe that it is “enough” to elect a specific model as “the ugliest ever”.

In the comments section of our test drives, and also on Facebook, we often find ourselves at read opinions regarding the design, an aspect purely subjective and that we rarely take into consideration as a yardstick. While for someone there Hyundai Kona it is not particularly attractive in terms of aesthetic look, perhaps also due to the arrangement of the lights in several rowsfor others it is not easy to digest home solutions Tesla accomplices of proportions and overhangs that are not always ideal. Another example is given by the Cybertruck, the famous and long-awaited Tesla electric pickup characterized by incredibly sharp and angular lines that do not in any way follow the stylistic features dictated by Elon Musk’s company in recent years. Again thanks to feedback we receive from our readers, we noticed one substantial uncertainty in the design of the Volkswagen Up!defined by some as a small household appliance on wheels due to its “almost cubic” shape.
Conversely, there are examples of builders who, perhaps even favoring the opinion of their buyers and others, have radically changed the design from one generation to the next; the closest example that comes to mind is that of Kia with Soul. It is a compact crossover that, while maintaining its square design, is now closer to the taste of European customers. Even Nissan, with the famous Jukehas completely upset the lines, especially of the front, passing from a decidedly extravagant crossover to something, restyling after restyling, simpler and more squared off.
If we were to really unbalance, the only style language we didn’t particularly appreciate is the one introduced by BMW for some months and represented byhuge double kidney much criticized even on the net. We could not even digest it right away, perhaps also due to an indirect comparison with the front panels of the previous series, but today we are able to appreciate it perhaps also thanks to the small aesthetic tricks made by BMW to less emphasize this huge air intake.

In any case, looking at the past, modern cars seem increasingly distant to us compared to some “bizarre” solutions released in the 80s and 90s. Impossible not to mention our own Fiat Multiplathe American Pontiac Aztec, Nissan S-Cargo or the Hyundai Tiburon. These are just some of the models that we find in the various rankings published on the net; to be honest it is not uncommon to also find theAlfa Romeo SZdesigned by Zagato and Opron, which, perhaps due to its appearance too sharp and angular for the time, may not please everyone.
After this very brief examination we turn to our readers: in your opinion, what is themodern car (of the last years) ugliest on the market? Write us in the comments, we are very curious!
