In the world of electronic devices, few companies have a catalog as large and varied as Xiaomi’s. The Chinese manufacturer has (at least) 85 sub-brands, ranging from mobile phones, laptops, electric scooters, stoves, lamps, robot vacuum cleaners and much more.
Xiaomi has everything among its devices, and obviously they couldn’t stay without augmented reality glasses (others). The company presented in China its new Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera, very complete RA glasses, but that hardly anyone will want to use. We tell you all about them.
Augmented reality glasses with amazing power and screen
After introducing its Xiaomi Smart Glasses last year, the company wants to take the AR glasses game to a new level. How do they intend to do it? Exaggerating everything that already exists on the market. And it is that the new Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera are precisely that: glasses that take the best of Google Glass, Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories and Xiaomi Smart Glasses and take it to a higher level, both in size and specifications.
This new Xiaomi device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8-core processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage. Besides, they have a Micro LED screen manufactured by Sony with a maximum brightness of 1,800 nits (3,000 nits peak) and an overwhelming pixel density of 3,281 ppi.
And if that wasn’t enough, they also have integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivitya 1020 mAh battery and 10 W magnetic charging. Yes, the Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera does not envy anything to your mobile.
With all this, the new Xiaomi glasses allow you to see RA content with a fascinating quality. Also, integrate an intelligent translator in real time, a fabulous feature, which shows on the screen what the person you are talking to is saying. Be careful, at the moment he is only a Chinese-English translator (or vice versa), but that does not detract from his merit.
The Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera includes two cameras that surpass those of many mobiles
As if that were not enough, Xiaomi’s RA glasses have photographic sensors that rub shoulders with some of the best seen on mobiles. Specifically, they incorporate a 50 MP main camera (with Sony IMX766 sensor, one of the best of the year), as well as an 8 MP periscopic camera with 15x optical zoom and OIS. Many high-end mobiles do not have a telephoto lens of that level!
By the way, an amazing curiosity about the Xiaomi Mijia Glasses cameras is that, by touching the shutter button, you can take photos of things that happened up to 10 seconds before. How is this possible? It is not that they incorporate a time machine, but that the cameras are always on to be able to send information to the screen. Thus, the glasses store images for a certain time and it is from them that you can extract that photograph of the past.
Regarding “hardly anyone will want to use them”, we say it because the design of these glasses is quite bizarre. While the Ray-Ban Stories hide very well that they are smart glasses, the Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera are the opposite. The camera module, as well as the screen projector, are huge and intimidating. So much so that it seems that at any moment you will fire a laser beam at someone. They are not light glasses either, since they weigh 100 g, but they are the sacrifices that must be made to have such complete AR glasses.
Price and availability of the Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera with AR
Xiaomi’s new augmented reality glasses were introduced in China and they are only for sale in the Asian country. You can find them through Youpin, Xiaomi’s crowdfunding website, for 2,699 yuan (one €390 at current exchange rate).
It is very likely that these glasses will not leave China, as is the case with many of Xiaomi’s products. However, we will keep an eye out for any news on a possible global launch, as these glasses are a huge step forward when it comes to augmented reality. And if they do not arrive in Spain, there is always the option of importing them directly from China.
